Country Comes Home

Official website of Irish singing sensation Tom Laverty

Welcome to my site!

“Without music, life would be a mistake.

My musical debut was at the age of nine. It took place in primary school at the behest of the teacher who was telling us about the Yukon gold rush in the 1840s and I was asked to stand up and sing ‘Oh my darling Clementine’ to the amusement and amazement of my classmates.

From that time on music was a large part of my life fuelled by the sounds of Radio Caroline, a pirate station which played all the pop tunes of the day, something like Radio One or Downtown Radio.

From early times in secondary school, my musical tastes would have been influenced by the American singers who were country musicians but were being played on mainstream radio. People such as Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash and Kenny Rodgers.

In recent years, my repertoire would have included covers by Dylan, Springsteen , John Prine and the Eagles. I have also recorded some of my own songs over the years, creating characters who are battling loneliness, rejection, mental issues and addiction.

Hopefully, my music does not always cover the niceties of life but describes the all too frequent times when things don’t go as planned. Frank Zappa once said,

“Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.”
